The Story
2016 Vintage. We used our own black currants as well as black currants from another local farm. The result is a richer, intense style of kickass currant. More fruit forward, deeper tannin, and a robust burgundy colour.
Bob and Dana are both huge fans of currants. They grow very well on our farm and for some reason are not used much in our local cuisine. We thought that the tannin and mouth feel of the Black Currants combined with honey could make a mead that could be enjoyed like a red wine. It turns out that many people who get headaches from red wine are able to consume the Kickass Currant without any such effects. The name Kickass came from the moment we needed to register this product with the LDB. Dana asked Bob what he wanted to name it. Well, the fermentation was so perfect from start to finish and it barley needed any finishing so he thought it was Kickass! Apparently the LDB was ok with the name.
