Our seasonal
mead. This off dry mead is made with 100% Vancouver Island Honey
and a blend of berries from our farm. Clean and crisp with a distinct
fruity palate, it finishes with a soft whisper of honey. Melomel
was the mainstay of ancient agricultural communities, their festivals,
and traditions long before the cultivation of grapes and barley.
Enjoy this mead with our famous wild BC salmon, cream pastas,
fowl, or your favourite cheeses.
Serve at cellar temperature. This mead cellars well for up to
10 years.
Metheglin

An old world
mead brought to the new world by the first settlers in North America.
This ancient mead style descends from the many generations that
created their own secret recipes. Wildflower Honey and a blend
of spices is added to pure water and fermented with special yeast.
Aged in French Oak barrels, this off dry mead, with its complex
aromas and taste, is sure to please the most discerning palates.
Sack Mead -
Wassail Gold

This mead
is for those liking a rich thick desert style wine with a complex
finish. This style of mead is made with an extra amount of premium
natural honey, less water, special yeast cultures and is fermented
and aged in French oak barrels. We have produced a limited run
of 500 litres of this pure honey mead. A truly polished dessert
wine with its origin rooted firmly in ancient Rome.
Pairs nicely with desserts of vanilla ice cream, fresh fruit,
or your favourite sweets. It is also good paired with dry/ aged
cheeses and /or dry fruit and nut plates. Serve slightly chilled
or cellar temperature. A polished, long keeping mead that will
cellar well for 15-20 years.
Tugwell Creek Farm We specialize in high
quality products from our own beehives located around the Sooke
area. A warm spring followed by a moderately dry summer has yielded
intense nectar with robust floral aromas and a slightly lighter
golden colour that is more reminiscent of our 2000 vintage.
From our Survey
Mountain apiary the bees have harvested Wildflower honey. This
honey is comprised of Salal (Gaultheria Shallon), Fireweed (Epilobium
Angustifolium) and Hawksbeard (Crepis Capillaris). The nectars
are derived from an assortment of other sub alpine blossoms found
high in the mountains above the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
Our Sooke
River Pot Holes apiary is our newest apiary and is now in full
production. This area is known by many locals for its superb Blackberry
(Rubus Discolour) crops. We put our bees there to obtain the nectar
from them and later in the summer from the abundant Canada Thistle
(Cirsium Arvense). A truly tasty combination.
Honey
Comb
Due to popular demand we are proud to announce
a limited amount of fresh honey in the wax comb and chunk honeycomb
in bottled honey. Don't miss this old-fashioned favourite of young
and old alike. Available in September in limited quantities.
Candles
Hand dipped
beeswax tapers are made from the purest of our beeswax. Hand dipped
from beeswax cappings they have the beautiful natural smell and
colour that only true beeswax candles emanate. Limited quantities
of these candles are available at our farm or by special order.
Beeswax
Our purest
of beeswax comes from the wax cappings of the honeycomb in the
hives. This is the last wax laid down by the bees making it the
highest quality. It has a beautiful smell and colour and is available
in 50gram bars.
